The Government of Fiji has received a loan from the Asian Development
Bank toward the cost of the Third Road Upgrading (Sector) Project, and
it intends to apply the proceeds of this loan to payments for goods,
works, related services and consulting services to be procured under
this project. Bidding for contracts financed by the Asian Development
Bank will be governed by the procurement rules of the Asian
Development Bank.

The Project aims to assist the Govern ment of Fiji to (i) to improve
the efficiency of road sector services and increase private sector
participation, and (ii) improve management or road assets and sector
resources. The Project will reduce transport sector constraints on
economic development, and thus improve economic returns on transport
infrastructure. It will help integrate transport sector planning and
macroeconomic planning.

The project will include the following goods, works and services:

- Upgrading of the Wailoaloa Road 3 (2.9km) (Construction,
foundation and surface works for highways, roads)

Procurement of contracts financed by the loan will be conducted
through the procedures specified in Guidelines for Procurement under
Asian Development Bank Loans[1] of the Asian Development Bank, and is
open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined in the
guidelines.

The first batch of Bidding Documents for the above item are expected
to be available on or about 1 April 2002, upon payment of a nominal
fee.

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under
international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures will be announced,
as they become available, in the Development Gateway Market.
