****Road Pavement Rehabilitations

Invitation for Prequalification

FIJI

Loan No. 1530

Contract/Bid No.QS1/02

The Government of Fiji has received a loan from the Asian Development
Bank toward the cost of the Third Road Upgrading (Sector) Project, and
it intends to apply the proceeds of this loan to payments under the
contract for Road Pavement Rehabilitations.

The Project aims to assist the Govern ment of Fiji to (i) to improve
the efficiency of road sector services and increase private sector
participation, and (ii) improve management or road assets and sector
resources. The Project will reduce transport sector constraints on
economic development, and thus improve economic returns on transport
infrastructure. It will help integrate transport sector planning and
macroeconomic planning.

The Public Works Tenders Board intends to prequalify contractors
and/or firms for:

- Lot 1:

- Stabilization and Sealing (Road construction works) - 75,000 m2

Year: 2002 Road: North/Nabouwalu Locality: Tabia.
- Lot 2:

- Stabilization Airport and Sealing (Construction work for
airports) - 22,000 m2

Year: 2002 Road: West/Queens Locality: Nadi.
- Lot 3:

- Stabilization and Sealing (Road construction works) - 5,000 m2

Year: 2002 Road: West/Kings Locality: Vatutavui.
- Lot 4:

- Stabilization and Sealing (Road construction works) - 31,000 m2

Year: 2002 Road: Central/Queens Locality: Naboutini.
- Lot 5:

- Stabilization and Sealing (Road construction works) - 55,500 m2

Year: 2003 Division/Road:North/Nabouwalu Locality: Korovuli.
- Lot 6:

It is expected that invitations to bid will be made in May 2002.

The construction will take place from 2002-5-31 to 2004-12-31.

Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures
specified in the Asian Development Bank Guidelines for Procurement
under Asian Development Bank Loans[1]. It is open to all bidders from
eligible source countries as defined in the guidelines.

Road pavement rehabilitations by lime and cement treatment
stabilization techniques and surfaced by two coats bitumen chip
sealing.

Submission of Applications for Prequalification must be received in
sealed envelopes, which must be delivered either by hand or by
registered mail and be clearly marked "Contract QS1/02". Applicants
will be advised in due course of the results of their applications.
Only firms and joint ventures prequalified under this procedure will
be invited to bid.

Bidding will be allowed for whole lots only.

Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information from and
inspect the prequalification documents at the Public Works Tenders
Board at the address below. A complete set of prequalification
documents in English may be purchased by interested bidders on the
submission of a written application to the address below and upon
payment of a nonrefundable fee of FJD 100. or US$50.00. The document
will be sent by mail, but under no circumstances will it be held
responsible for late delivery or loss of the documents so mailed.

Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed
envelopes, delivered to the address below by 15 May 2002, and be
clearly marked "Application to Prequalify for Third Road Upgrading
(Sector) Project. Road Pavement Rehabilitations - Contract No.
QS1/02."
