Siem Reap Urban Development Project

PROJECT BRIEF

The Royal Government of Cambodia has received a grant from the Agence Francaise de Développement (AFD) to the financing of a program of urban infrastructure and municipal support in Siem Reap.

Rationale and Objective of the Project:

The AFD- support program rationale is the establishment of conditions enabling a sustainable development of the Angkor-Siem Reap area, against the backdrop of an increasing flow of tourists, rapid urbanization of the Siem Reap District and associated environmental threats.

The program predominantly aims at providing the urban extension area of Siem Reap with the necessary drainage infrastructure, and at increasing local capacity in term of municipal management. It also will provide support to APSARA, the public entity in charge of the management of the Angkor heritage.

Contents of the Project:

The AFD grant will finance the following contracts:
- the study of a drainage and waste water master plan for the entire District of Siem Reap;
- the design of a priority works program for the drainage of the urban extension area of Siem Reap (east), entailing the construction of 25 km of mostly open-cut drainage channels and rehabilitation of associated;
- the realisation of the above priority works;
- the assistance to the executing agency (Siem Reap Province) with regard to the extension of the above works;
- capacity building activities directed toward the Siem Resp province regarding planning and municipal management.

All 5 contracts shall be advertized internationally. Overall budget is about 4.5 M Euros.

Project period is 3 years, starting from April 07.
