NUTRITION AND MALARIA CONTROL FOR CHILD SURVIVAL PROJECT

GENERAL PROCUREMENT NOTICE

1. This general procurement notice is being published in current Development Business. The Government of Ghana has applied for credit from the World Bank in the amount of US$25 Million towards the cost of the Nutrition and Malaria Control for Child Survival Project, and it intends to apply the proceeds of this credit to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project.

2. The project will include the following components:
(i) Component1- Institutional Strengthening for Coordination and Implementation and Outcome. The specific objectives are: (i) to develop effective inter-sectoral coordination, ownership and accountability for nutrition towards the establishment of a coherent national program and (ii) to strengthen the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service to effectively coordinate implementation of the community based health and nutrition program supported by the project. This component will finance technical assistance, training and workshops and incremental operating costs for specified activities.

(ii) Component 2- Community based Health and Nutrition Service Delivery: The objective is to scale up community based health and nutrition services for children under two and pregnant women based on a community level package of Essential Nutrition Actions. This component will finance technical assistance, training, workshops and goods for community-based health and nutrition services and service providers, and incremental operating costs for specified activities.

(iii) Component 3 - Malaria Prevention: The objective is to increase utilization of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Bed Nets in order to reduce malaria related morbidity and mortality among children under five and pregnant women. The component will finance technical assistance, goods and incremental operating costs for specified activities.

3. The goods and consulting services to be included in the project are as follows:

Goods: (i) Supply of (i) 38(No) 4x4 Pick-Ups, (ii) 2(No) Cross-Country Vehicles, (iii) 115(No) Motor Cycles, (iv) 900,000(No) Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Bed Nets, and (v) Printing of Training Material for Communication Strategy for Health Workers and Community Volunteers.





Consultant Services: (i)Implementation of advocacy strategy (adverts, development and printing of training material, training, etc), (ii) Baseline survey on Nutrition and Health Status, (iii) Monitoring of the resistance of mosquitoes to insecticides

4. Procurement of contracts financed by the credit will be conducted through the procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits (current edition) and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (current edition)

5. Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank’s international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for large-value consultants’ contracts will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business and dgMarket and in local newspapers.

6. Interested eligible bidders who wish to be included on the mailing list to receive an invitation to bid under ICB procedures, and interested consultants who wish to receive a copy of the advertisement requesting expressions of interest for large-value consultants’ contracts, or those requiring additional information, should contact the address below.
