| Abstract: | Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Education, Training and Development Initiative for Support Staff in the Irish Health Service. The Health Service Executive (HSE) invites providers to tender for a major education, training and development initiative for support staff in the Irish health and personal social services. The scope of this contract is for the provision of education, training and development initiatives to address the needs and aspirations of circa 28,500 supervisors and support staff in the health services which include healthcare assistants, porters, catering assistants, household staff, semi-skilled persons/crafts-person's mates/maintenance persons, home helps/community carers, family support workers, general assistants, CSSD/TSSD technicians, therapy assistants, speech and language assistants, laboratory aides and laundry staff etc. The contract will be awarded for a period of four years initially with an option for the commissioners to extend it for a further year. This arrangement is conditional on a successful independent evaluation of the initial pilot programme(s). Re awarding of contracts to training providers - following a comprehensive tendering process the SKILL Project Steering Group has made a decision in relation to the awarding of contracts to training providers. In this regard the agreement and approval of the Health Service Executive Board was given on 1st December 2005 to award the contract to a consortium of the Vocational Education Committees (VEC) led by the City of Dublin VEC. The Open Training College will be providing the specialist modules for the intellectual disabilities sector and diagnostic imaging in University College Dublin has been appointed to deliver specialist modules for health care assistants working in Radiography Departments. The contracts are for a period of three years initially with an option for the commissioners to extend them for a further year. All contract arrangements are conditional on a successful independent evaluation of the initial programmes in early 2006 and the subsequent satisfactory roll-out of the programmes in the system between now and 2008.
